Quality Systems in Health Care
First of all, quality in health care has been poorly understood.
Thanks to attempts, and the term "attempt" is used intentionally, at quality
systems by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health-Care
Organizations (JCAHO); quality systems have gotten a very bad reputation within
healthcare. As a result, the Baldrige Criteria for health care have scrupulously
minimized the use of the term "quality", "Performance Excellence" is used in its
place
As a result of the National Institute of Medicine's report on health safety
in the United States, to err is human, there has been renewed interest in the
concept of six sigma, i.e. 3.4 errors per million events.
This site is under continual development. At this time, it is primarily
comprised of links to the national, and some state, quality organizations. The
ISO9000 standards are also relevant.
